Autumn in Wisconsin
New summer’s wistful spirit steals away
In mist that skirts the edges of the wood
Beneath a changing, undecided sun;
And fall comes like a rogue’s artistic mood.
It cast a chilly shadow on the water
And flings bright color to excited trees,
Excepting pines which, with a watchful greenness
Await with calm the winter’s artistries.
